RIP Patrice. I will tell you one of the weirdest things I have ever done, in his honor. When I was 22 I worked at a comedy club, and Patrice was performing. I was up in the box office so I didn’t get to watch the show, and thus was out of my mind bored. There were a bunch of leftover flyers with his headshot promoting his appearance. It was the last night he was performing, so they were garbage at this point. I was so bored I spent the show cutting his head out of the flyers in the shape of hearts. Tons of them. And taped them all together, and presented my artwork to him after the show, barely able to suppress my laughter. He was like, “Um, really?” And I was like, “Yep, this is for you.” He thanked me and went on his way, probably wondering who the crazy girl was, but he was totally cool about it. I was just wondering how he was doing post-stroke this morning when I heard the news. Sad.
